Southwest Ranches, FL. October 5, 2008 .Archbishop McCarthy High School family, 5451 South Flamingo Road in Southwest Ranches held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the 1,450 seat Student and Performing Arts Center.

Archbishop John C. Favalora and Reverend Brendan Dalton joined together to cut the ribbon, which was followed by Archbishop John C. Favalora celebrating a dedication mass at the new facility.  â€œWe were honored to have a dozen priests from area parishes join the Archbishop and Reverend Dalton in concelebrating the mass, said Dr. Richard J. Perhla Principal Archbishop Edward McCarthy High School.

This beautiful Student and Performing Arts Center was made possible thanks to our many generous benefactors who believe in the parochial school system,  Dr. Perhla continued.  At the mass Archbishop Favalora spoke of St. Theresa and her Little Way, we at Archbishop McCarthy High School plan to carry his message into our many communities through our actions and those of our students making the community and world a better place through one kind act at a time.

The Student and Performing Arts Center project opened on schedule, 18 months after the January 2007 groundbreaking!  The Student and Performing Arts Center is a multi purpose facility, which will be used for school events, banquets and ceremonies. The 24,230 square foot building is home to an auditorium with seating for 1450, it has table and chair seating capacity of 580, a theater size stage with under stage storage, State of the Art Lighting and Sound, and a Catering Kitchen.

Next up for AMHS?

Opening with 190 students in 1998, today AMHS enjoys an enrollment of 1400.   Growth in the student body mandates growth in the facility.  With the Student & Performing Arts Center now open for students, plans are in the works to add a new classroom building to house 14 additional classrooms, which would allow enrollment to grow anywhere from 200 to 400 students.     To enhance the AMHS award winning athletic program plans are in progress to build a 5,000 square foot fully enclosed Pavilion/Sportsplex Fitness center providing Cardio, Free Weights and Circuit Training for the student body, faculty and staff.   Also in the plans are an Athletic Complex which features a Stadium with permanent bleachers and provide a home field for Maverick Football, Soccer and Lacrosse teams.  Also included:  Practice Facility, tennis courts, an Olympic size swimming pool and diving well, plus outdoor basketball facilities.

HISTORY: Building Project

On January 31, 2007 Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy High School (AMHS), held a Groundbreaking and Blessing Ceremony.   The Cafetorium project is Phase I of the school’s Capital Campaign Building on Traditions: Faith, Family, Education & Excellence.   The 4.5 million dollar facility will provide a state of the art theatre for the school’s award-winning Fine Arts program, school assemblies, Mass and much more.  The Cafetorium includes a fully functioning dining service which will provide students and guests with a comfortable air-conditioned and secure environment where meals and companionship can be enjoyed.

In December of 2004, fundraising consultants completed a study and published a campaign feasibility report, which indicated that strong support for a capital campaign existed within the Archbishop McCarthy family. After continued study and strengthening of its campaign case for support, the Administration of AMHS and the Principal’s Advisory Committee in January of 2005 authorized this capital campaign to be implemented in 2005 and to raise a minimum of $2 million.   The capital campaign effort brought together hundreds of people from the Capital Campaign Executive Committee, administration, faculty, current families, alumni families, and friends  who desired to help provide the physical environment and financial strength that will be required to meet the institutional an d educational needs of students of this and many future generations.
