The “City Streets” of Hollywood, Miami, Las Vegas and New Orleans came to life on the AMHS campus this year as students planned and decorated their class hallways on Friday, September 28th in preparation for our Homecoming Week. The Junior class won the decorating competition with their transformation of the hallway into a slice of Miami Beach.

A movie night was held on Monday, October 1st to kick off a week of activity.  Movie night was well attended as students were anxious to hear the announcement of homecoming court candidates as part of the evening’s activities.

Our annual field day was held on Tuesday with a schedule of events that made the most of a rainy weekend and soggy fields.  Students enjoyed outside events that included the foam pit and rock walls.  Basketball games were held in the gym as grade levels competed for class points toward winning the title, “Most Spirited Class.”  Relay races completed the indoor competitive games.

The school gym was unrecognizable Wednesday morning as students decorated for the Spirit Rally to be held at the end of the day.  The “City Streets” theme was incorporated into the decorations.  The senior class was awarded first place in the gym decoration contest.

The Mavericks took the day defeating Pines Charter 17 to 7 on our home field.  The Maverick marching band, cheerleaders and dance team performed during the half time period and the homecoming court was introduced.  Congratulations to the following students: Freshmen representatives Anthony Baronci and Michelle Pinto, Sophomore representatives Johnson Francois and Gabriella Martinez, Junior representatives Marc Rodriguez and Christina DeVarona and Senior court:

The Freshman / Sophomore dance in the gym and the Senior / Junior dance at the Hillcrest Country Club were the culmination of Homecoming Week activities.  Both dances were well attended.  Students danced the night away and enjoyed a variety of delicious foods from the buffet menu chosen by the class officers of the SGA.  Carlos Altamirano was crowned Homecoming King and Gillian Arbas was crowned Homecoming Queen.  Congratulations to both students.
