
ACADEMIC PROFILE
Archbishop Edward McCarthy High School (AMHS) is a Roman Catholic co-educational College preparatory school owned and operated by the Archdiocese of Miami.
The school is located in the town of Southwest Ranches on a 61-acre campus. Currently, there are 1,402 students in grades nine through twelve.Since 2005 AMHS has been named one of the Top 50 Catholic Schools in the nation by the Catholic High School Honor Roll. AMHS draws students from Broward, Dade and Palm Beach counties. The school has a professional teaching staff of 72. The average teaching experience is over 15 years. More than half hold master’s degrees or doctorates.
The entire teaching faculty holds state certification. Our mission as a Roman Catholic college-preparatory institution is to provide a safe, structured, diverse, creative and Christ-centered environment for all students that enable the development of their intellectual, spiritual and physical beings so they can become productive members of family, community and society.
Our school enthusiastically participates in the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA), competing interscholastically in baseball, volleyball, softball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, track, swimming, dance, wrestling and football. In addition, Archbishop McCarthy students have the opportunity to serve their school and develop their talents by participating in some of our 49 clubs.
CURRICULUM
Archbishop McCarthy students are required to complete a minimum of twenty- four credits in grades nine through twelve, to be distributed as follows:

Science 3 (Two with Lab Components)
Social Studies 7 (Four in Theology)

Students are required to complete a 16 book reading program along with 100 community service hours for graduation. AP and Honors sections are only offered to qualified students in English, Mathematics, Foreign Language, Science, and Social Science. Additionally, Archbishop McCarthy High School offers Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement courses. The Dual Enrollment program (DE) provides college-level courses while attending Archbishop McCarthy High School. Dual Enrollment opportunities are offered through St. Thomas University to qualifying students based on their GPA. Twenty-nine Dual Enrollment courses are offered in:Accounting 1A/1B, Anatomy & Physiology, Business & Entrepreneurship Principles, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Computer Science, English III Honors, English IV Honors, English Language & Composition, English Literature & Composition, French Language, Human Relations, Journalism, Macroeconomics, Meteorology Honors, Microcomputer Applications II, Philosophy I Honors, Spanish Literature, Precalculus/Analytic Geometry Honors, Spanish III Honors, Spanish Language, Spanish Speakers III Honors, U.S. American History, Visual Basic, World Religions Honors.
DUAL ENROLLMENT
ADVANCED PLACEMENT
A student who graduates from Archbishop McCarthy will be well prepared for future educational endeavors. Every department offers Honors, Advanced Placement and College Dual- Enrollement opportunities. Afer researching current university requirements, course offerings are selected every year. Current AP courses include: English, Biology, Chemistry, Calculus,AB/BC, American History, Macro Economics, Government and Politics, Computer Science, Spanish, French and Art. Preparation for the PSAT, SAT and ACT are built into the curriculum.

GRADING AND RANK
Archbishop McCarthy does not provide class rank for students.All grades on transcripts are unweighted; however, the transcript does provide a weighted grade point average. Students are required to take semester exams that count as 20% of their semester grade.

COLLEGE PLACEMENT & SCHOLARSHIPS
Beginning with our first graduating class, over 90% of our students have matriculated to college directly from Archbishop McCarthy High School. For the Class of 2009, students received academic, athletic, military, and special talent scholarships totaling approximately $15,000,000.
