On behalf of the Athletic Department I’d like to welcome you to the Archbishop McCarthy High School Athletic website. As Athletic Director, over the past eleven years I’ve been privileged to be a part of the school’s growth and achievements. Our athletic program now fields a combined twenty-five varsity, fifteen junior varsity sports for men and women and two freshman teams, as well as two club sports. The coaching staff and athletes are striving to build off the successes of the 2010-2011 season, which included an overall record of 364 wins, 125 losses, and 4 ties winning 74% of our varsity competitions and finishing as one of the top 4A to 6A schools in Broward County. Archbishop McCarthy High school recorded district championships in women’s basketball and women’s soccer, who qualified for the regional championship. Earning district and regional championships and moving on to the FHSAA State Championship Series were baseball, men’s golf, and men’s volleyball. At the State Tournament, the men’s volleyball finished second. Wrapping of the sports season, the baseball team not only won their second consecutive State Championship, which was accomplished only twice before in the history of Broward County, but were also named National Champions by USA Today, Perfect Game, and Baseball America. Our coaches received well deserved recognition as well. Receiving Coach of the Year Honors by the local media were Dave DiNicola for men’s cross country, Karen Frank for men’s volleyball and Rich Bielski for baseball. Coach Bielski was also named National Coach of the Year by USA Today in baseball. For more information on our sports programs, please click here to view the Athletic Program’s overall records and accomplishments. While in high school I encourage you to become involved, whether it’s in athletics and/or other extracurricular activities. Archbishop McCarthy boasts over 60% student participation rate in sports. We are extremely proud to have such a large portion of our student body competing in athletics. Our sports program provides you with the opportunity to participate, but what you achieve with this opportunity is in your hands. Please keep in mind that a number of our athletic programs have a selection process, while others such as football, wrestling, and men’s and women’s cross country and track allow all those who try out a chance to compete. Once again, I encourage you to enrich your high school experience by getting involved.
I want to thank you for taking the time to learn more about Maverick Athletics. If you have any questions or would like more information please email me at tmassaro@mccarthyhigh.org. Sincerely, Anthony Massaro

ATHLETIC INFORMATION
The following information will guide you on what is necessary to participate each school year in Maverick Athletics:
1. A properly completed athletic physical packet which includes a physician signature, FHSAA and AMHS Parental Consent forms, and a copy of your health insurance card (see below to download forms). It’s strongly recommended to wait until after June 1st to since the athletic physical is only valid for one year from the date the physician signs and completes the physical form. This physical packet is separate from immunization forms which are needed to attend classes. Are completed packets can be turned in to the school’s main office. Incomplete packets will not be accepted and can delay the student/athlete’s opportunity to participate in athletics.
2. All important sports information such as tryout dates and times can be found in the school’s monthly newsletter, which can be downloaded from the main page of the school’s website.
