Florida Bright futures Scholarship Program
In 1997, the Florida legislature created The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program to reward students for their academic achievements during high school by providing funding to attend postsecondary education in Florida.

There have been changes to the Florida Legislature as of 2009.  The Department of Educations offers a flat cost per credit hour award for the 2009-2010 academic year.
Any Students must refund their college institution the cost of any dropped classes.
For more in-depth information, go to the Bright Futures web site for eligibility requirements at:  www.FloridaStudentFinancialAid.org.

Senior students can apply after December 1st and no later than their graduation date.

All eligible students should apply even if they are considering an out-of-state college. If circumstances change, and the student returns to attend a Florida State college, The Bright Futures program allows a student to use their scholarship award for up to three years after the initial award date.

Also remember that all colleges require parents to fill out the FAFSA form. Whether eligible or not, again, financial circumstances can change. By doing this, the Federal Government will have your application on file and your child would be protected in not having their classes interrupted due to your financial obligations to the college.
FAFSA applications should be available on line after January 1st.
