AMHS Student Selected To Attend

Fast Paced Summer Seminar

at the

U.S. Naval Academy

The old ‘What did you do on your summer vacation’ question takes on new meaning for Elliott James,

a resident of Pembroke Pines and Junior at Archbishop McCarthy High School.  James will be very busy as one of 2,250 students

world wide selected to attend a summer seminar at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland and Interning at the US State Department in the country of Curacao.

Elliott James a resident of Pembroke Pines and Junior at Archbishop McCarthy High School in Southwest Ranches has been invited to join a select group of 2,250 young men and women from the United States and around the world to attend a fast paced summer seminar at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland.  Not only will James be attending the 2010 Naval Academy Summer Seminar program, he has also been selected for a US State department internship this summer in the country of Curacao.

“Ellliott is looking forward to attending the Summer Seminar,” said AMHS Teacher and Retired Lt Col Greg Cosgrove.     “This program attracts high achieving students who have completed their junior year in high school and are considering applying for admission to USNA.”     High Achieving is an understatement for James who excels academically, and is active in both the AMHS Model UN and the Support our Troops Club, an AMHS District Champ (140 lbs) 2010 Wrestler, an Eagle Scout with Ship 814 in Pembroke Pines and a member of the Florida Blacksmith Association.

“With all he has scheduled, Elliott may just need a summer vacation come August,” laughed Cosgrove.

NAVAL ACADEMY SUMMER SEMINAR: The Summer Seminar teaches prospective applicants about life at the Naval Academy, where academics, athletics, and professional training play equally important roles in developing our nation's leaders. Each student will attend a six-day session and experience a part of USNA life. Students in the program live in Bancroft Hall (the dormitory in which all USNA midshipmen live), eat in the dining hall, participate in academic and leadership workshops and participate in daily physical training involving group runs and conditioning exercises. They will have an opportunity to see first-hand what the Naval Academy has to offer through its exceptional academic, athletic, extracurricular activities and leadership training programs.
