EXECUTIVE ADMINISTRATION

Reverend Brendan Dalton, President/Supervising Principal

Father Dalton

Fr. Dalton is the Supervising Principal. Fr. Dalton is currently the pastor at St. Bernadette Parish. He was one of the original and most ardent supporters from the inception of the dream to build a Catholic High School in South Broward. Fr. Dalton celebrates over 35 years of ordination to the priesthood. Father has served in many other parishes including Visitation, Epiphany, St. Matthews, St. Bartholomew, Sacred Heart and St. Gregory. Fr. Dalton was born in County Kerry, Ireland. He studied at St. John’s Seminary in Waterford and was ordained in 1969. We thank Fr. Dalton for sharing his ministry and talents with us. .

Mr. Richard P. Jean, Principal - ext 202

Mr. Jean

Mr. Jean has been involved in teaching, coaching and administration for the Archdiocese of Miami for over 20 years. His experience includes elementary, middle school and high school. He attended Duquesne University and Barry University where he earned his B.A. and M.A. degree in sports management and business administration.

 

 

Mr. Robert F.Siccone, Assistant Principal

Mr. Siccone

Mr. Robert Siccone, our Assistant Principal, comes to Archbishop McCarthy High School with nearly 40 years of experience in Catholic Education - 26 of these years in elementary, high school and graduate school administration. He has previously administered, taught and coached in New York, Boston, Miami and various locations throughout southwest Florida. He holds an M.S. in Education from Iona College, as well as an Ed. Specialist degree from Barry University.

Reverend Kris Bartos, AP for Christian Formation- ext. 229

After his years of service at St. Brendan High School, Fr. Bartos serves as Assistant Principal for Christian Formation at Archbishop McCarthy High School. As well as his administration duties and teaching Theology, he is a member of the Campus Ministry team and plans to say daily Mass for our students. He received his B.A. from Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit, a Masters in Divinity from St. John Provincial Seminary and earned his Masters degree in Education from Boston College. Fr. Bartos is in residence at St. Boniface parish.

Mr. Jack Letvinchuk, Assistant Principal for External Affairs

Jack Letvinchuk brings to Archbishop McCarthy High School significant experience in admissions and financial aid on both the secondary and collegiate levels. He served as Director of Admissions at Northwood University for nearly 15 years, Director of Admissions at St. Thomas University in Miami, FL, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at Portsmouth Abbey School, RI. and Director of Career and Employment Services & Assistant Director of Admissions at St. Anselm College in Manchester, NH. In addition, he served on the Board of Regents at the Portsmouth Abbey School for 6 years. He holds a BA degree in Economics from St. Anselm College, Manchester, NH, and an Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA. Mr. Letvinchuk will be working primarily with the college counseling, admissions, development, and public relations departments.

Dr. Elsa Torres, Dean of Academics

Dr. Torres has taught in Catholic education for over 30 years. She has been at AMHS for over 12 years. At AMHS, she is the Dean of Academics, Science Department Chairperson, and moderator of the Brain Bee/Science Club, and the Science National Honor Society. Dr. Torres earned her B.S. degree in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico and her master’s degree in Education Curriculum & Instruction from The City University of Seattle Washington. She has received her doctoral degree at Argosy University of Sarasota, Florida.

Ms. Karen Frank, Dean of Students

Ms. Karen Riva Frank is currently the Dean of Students and Head Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Coach. She has been teaching in the Archdiocese of Miami for 26 years. The past 12 years have been here at Archbishop McCarthy, where she has been the Physical Education Department Chair and Health Teacher. This year she became one of the Deans of Students, and has begun working on her Masters in Education.

Mr.. Kevin Molina, Dean of Students

Mr. K. Molina has been in education for nearly 20 years. The last 13 years has been working for the Archdiocese at Archbishop Coleman F. Carroll High and Saint Brendan High. With a BS in Social Studies Education and holding Florida Teacher Certificate in Social Sciences (6-12), Mr. Molina is currently working on his MS in Educational Leadership at Nova University. He is the Dean of Students and is involved as the Activities Administrator and Student Government for the Executive Board.

Mrs. Katleen Manning, Director of Admission

Manning is the Director of Admissions and Moderator of the Student Ambassador Association. She received a B.S. degree in Social Studies from Kent State University and a M.A. degree in Educational Administration from the University of Northern Colorado. She has over 10 years of teaching experience and has served at Archbishop McCarthy High School since its opening in 1998.

Mr. Anthony Massaro, Director of Athletics - ext. 220

After working for more than 25 years in the Catholic education, Mr. Massaro has served as our Athletic Director from the beginning and oversees the Booster Club. He earned his M.A. degree in Physical Education from Nova-Southeastern University. He is a member of St. David parish.

Ms. Karen Stalnaker, Director of Campus Ministry - ext. 205

Karen Stalnaker is Director of Campus Ministry. She teaches seniors in the Department of Theology and her courses are Pastoral Ministry and Pneumatology, a dual enrollment class with St. Thomas University. Karen is a moderator of the Life Youth Group, moderator for Transfiguration Retreat and oversees all retreats (on and off campus). Karen has been teaching for six years at Archbishop McCarthy. She has a M.A. in Practical Theology from Barry University.

Mrs. Pilar Blanco, Director of Guidance - ext. 222

She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with a minor in Sociology from the City University of New York. In 1982 she began her teaching career with the Archdiocese of Brooklyn in New York. She relocated to South Florida in 1987, where she began to teach for the Archdiocese of Miami for the duration of ten years. Later she received her Master’s Degree, in Guidance and Counseling, from ST. Thomas University, graduating in 1999. Soon after graduation, she was welcomed to Archbishop Curley High School in Miami. Soon after Mrs. Blanco was offered a position with St. Thomas Aquinas High School, and when Archbishop Edward McCarthy High School was established she was then hired as a counselor and later offered the position of Director of Guidance, a position that she has directed for nine years.

Mr. Joseph Morano, Director of Technology

Mr. Morano is currently serving the Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy High School family as the Technology Director. He taught in the Business and Technology Department for seven years. In 2010, he was asked to become the Technology Director and has been driving Archbishop McCarthy High School to the cutting edge of technology for the 21st century learner. Mr. Morano earned his bachelor’s degree in technical theatre from Florida Atlantic University and has been involved in the scenic design, lighting design and technical direction for almost all of the main stage productions in Archbishop McCarthy’s Theatre. In addition, he obtained a master’s degree in Computer Information Management from Webster University. Mr. Morano’s continuing vision is to engage and develop responsible 21st century Catholic learners through the use of cutting edge technology.

Ms. Henderson is the Director of Media and Library Services. She also teaches AP French. She is the moderator of the Book Club and of the Technology and Media Club. Ms. Henderson earned her B.A. in Criminal Justice and her M.A. in French from Florida Atlantic University. She also received an M.A. in Library and Information Science from the University of South Florida. She has over twenty years experience teaching at both the high school and college level.

Michell Llovet teaches Life Management/Health in the Physical Education Department. She has ten years of teaching experience and has been welcomed to Archbishop McCarthy for the eleventh year of her teaching career. Byron Walker is a first year personal fitness teacher at McCarthy High School. He is also our Head Football coach. Coach Walker is a 1980 graduate of Florida Atlantic University and holds a B.A. in English. He has been a teacher and coach in Florida for 35 years.

Mr. DiNicola teaches Physical Fitness, Fitness Life & Beginning Weight Training in the Physical Education department and will be assisting with the Head Track and Cross Country programs. He earned his B.S. degree in Health & Physical Education from Trenton State University and his M.S. in Physical Education from Nova-Southeastern University. Mr. Rolland is the chairperson and teaches Computer Science, Computer Applications, Visual Basic and Webmaster. He is the moderator for the Technology Club. Mrs. Zocco teaches in our Business Education and Technologies department. She has been teaching in the Catholic Schools for over 13 years. Mrs. Zocco earned her Bachelor's Degree in Information and Technology & Sciences from Florida Atlantic University, her Master's in Arts in Education & Technology at Nova Southeastern University and is currently pursuing her PhD at Florida Atlantic University in Education & Technology. Mrs. Cindy Keegan - -ext. 387

Mrs Keegan is the artistic director at AMHS. She has been involved in the theatre for over 30 years and has acted in and directed school, community and professional shows. She is the writer and director of the production “CyberMare” which explores internet bullying and it consequences. “Cyber Mare” can be seen at AMHS. One of Mrs. Keegan’s goal is to work with students of any age and instill in them the same love and passion she has for the theater, and teach them the discipline and dedication it takes to put on a quality show.

Mrs. Mindy Nixon - -ext.

Mindy Nixon is a member of the fine arts department and is in her first year at Archbishop McCarthy High School. Her teaching responsibilities include marching band, jazz band, and pep band and percussion techniques. Ms. Nixon holds a Bachelors degree in jazz studies from DePaul. University, M.Ed. from Indiana Wesleyan University and is a doctoral student at Nova Southeastern.

She has over 10 years of experience in education. This is her first year at our school. Her goal is to support students in their academic, personal/social, and career development so they become successful learners throughout their high school career and beyond.

Ms. Cynthia Burgos - ext.

Mrs. Cynthia Burgos teaches in the English Department at Archbishop McCarthy High School. Her responsibilities include teaching AP Language and Composition as well as English IV Honors. Her fifteen years of teaching experience include a variety of parochial schools from Georgia, West Virginia, and South Florida. Mrs. Burgos earned her B.A. as well as her MEd in English, both from Bob Jones University. This is Mrs. Burgos’ first year teaching at AMHS; she is proud to join the burgeoning English Department at Archbishop McCarthy High School.

Mrs. Jennifer Hecktor - ext.

Jennifer Hecktor teaches English I Honors and English III at Archbishop McCarthy High School. She is also the moderator of the National English Honor Society. This is her fourteenth year of teaching, and she’s looking forward to many years in the English Department. Mrs. Hecktor has an undergraduate degree in English, Secondary Education, and Special Education from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. She is pursuing a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction at FAU with an emphasis in English. She is also taking classes for her Level 1 Catechist certificate through the University of Dayton.

Ryan attended Michigan State University and graduated with a major in English. After college he moved to Prague in the Czech Republic where he gained his TEFL certification and taught English. Ryan speaks fluent German and teaches English II and Latin II.

Irene Rodriguez teaches English I and English II and is the coach and moderator for the school dance team. She earned her B.A. degree in English Education from Florida International University. Mrs. Catherine Kohrt, Dept. Chair - ext. 334

Catherine Kohrt has been teaching students for 30 years. She graduated from Carroll College in Helena, Montana with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and earned her first teaching certificate in Montana. She earned her Masters at NOVA University in Educational Leadership. This is her seventh year teaching here at Archbishop McCarthy High School. She is the Department Chair for the Theology Department and teaches Social Justice to our junior students. She is the moderator of the Amor en Acción Group and looks forward to taking a new group of senior students to the Dominican Republic on the spring Mission Trip. She is also the Junior Class Moderator and the Service Hour Coordinator.

Mr. Ricardo Gonzalez - ext.

Ricardo Gonzalez is currently a Development officer and teacher in the Theology department and is in his second year at Archbishop McCarthy. He has over 10 years of college level teaching experience and has over 20 years of experience as a High School youth minister in the Dioceses of New York, Ponce, Puerto Rico, Hartford Connecticut, and Gainesville Florida. Mr. Gonzalez holds a Bachelors degree in Communications from Queens College(CUNY), a Masters Degree in Theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville and a Masters of Education from Boston College.

Ms. Carrie Roach - ext.

Mrs. Roach has her Bachelors of Science degree in Science Education with additional course work amounting to another degree in Earth Literacy, Environmental Ethics and Marine Sciences from Florida Atlantic University. She earned her Masters of Arts degree in Practical Theology from Saint Thomas University in Miami Gardens. She has certificates in Biblical Scholarship from Saint Thomas University.

Mr. Joe Bertolone - ext.

Mr. Bertolone, aka “Coach Bert” has been a member of the AMHS faculty for 12 years. He graduated from John Carroll University in 1975 with a BA in Communications and also in 1977 with a M.ED in Guidance and Counseling. He was the ninth grade guidance counselor for the past 11 years and has now gone into the classroom to teach the Bible to sophomores. In 2001 he inaugurated the Maverick wrestling program, producing two Districts, and a Regional Championship Team. He has had numerous State Qualifiers, including Colby Borchetta, AMHS’ first ever State Champion AND two-time State Champion, as well as Javier Rodriguez in 2011, the first ever National Champion in any sport at AMHS. jbertolone@mccarthyhigh.org

Dr. Francisco Castillo teaches in the Theology Department as an instructor in World Religions, Philosophy and Bible. He has been teaching at Archbishop McCarthy for 13 years. Mr. Luongo teaches in our Theology department and will be organizing the freshmen Pieta retreats. He has over 25 years of teaching experience in Catholic High Schools. Mr. Luongo received his Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Don Bosco College in New Jersey and his Master’s of Divinity degree in Theology from Washington Theological Union. Ms. Martinez teaches a member of the Theology deparment and is the first Archbishop McCarthy graduate to join our faculty. She received her Bachelor degree in Theology from Barry University. Mr. Sandoe is the chairperson for the Social Studies department and teaches American History Honors, AP American History, AP Macroeconomics and AP American Government & Politics. He is also the moderator for the Senior Class and the Interact Club. Mr. Sandoe earned his B.A. degree in English from Boston College and his M.A. & M.A.T. degrees in Social Studies & History from Fordham University. He is a member of St. Bonaventure parish.

Mr. Lawrence Boes - ext. 236

Lawrence Boes teaches both regular and honors World History classes in the Social Studies department of Archbishop McCarthy High. Mr. Boes has been teaching at Archbishop McCarthy for 11 years. He is moderator of Link Crew, the freshman orientation program, and acts as coordinator of the major social events of the student body such as the homecoming dance, prom and grad bash. He works closely with the administration in the organization of graduation and baccalaureate.

Mr. Anfuso is a teacher in the Social Studies Department and teaches World History and American History. He has previously coached football and flag football and hopes to coach here at McCarthy High School in the future. He has been teaching for 14 years and this is his first year at Archbishop McCarthy. He has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Biscayne College.

Frank Talerico, Jr. has a BA in Exceptional Student Education from Florida Atlantic University. He has been teaching in both public and private schools for 13 years. He is the moderator of the Junior State of America and the Political Action Club.

Mrs. Janine Braun - ext. 350

Mrs. Braun, as a member of the Social Studies department teaches World History, Psychology and Economics. In addition, she is the moderator of the Student Government Association. She received her B.A. in History from St. Catherine College and her M.S.I.T. degree in Instructional Technology from New York Institute & Technology. She has over 20 years of experience in Catholic schools and is a member of St. David parish.

Mr. Gregory Cosgrove - ext. 364

Mr. Cosgrove is a member of the Social Studies department and Business/Technology department and will be teaching Government, Government Honors, Economics, Business Management Honors and Personal Finance Honors. Along with teaching, he will be the moderator of the Model U.N. program. He has taught twenty-six years in the U.S. Army of which he earned the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He received his B.S. degree in Education from West Virginia University and his M.A. from Webster University.

Mr. Enzo Grossi - ext. 360

Mr. Grossi teaches in the Social Studies department and coaching varsity wrestling as an assistant. He approaches 15 years of teaching in both primary and secondary levels. Mr. Grossi earned his Bachelor’s degrees in Education and Social Psychology from Florida Atlantic University. Mr. Grossi and his family are members of St. Maurice Parish.

Mr. Lobermann teaches in the Social Studies department, teaching AP World, American History. He earned both a B.S. and B.A. degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Northeastern University and his M.A degree from the Citadel and University of Charleston. He has been teaching in the Archdiocese for six years.

Ms. Sonia Gonzalez, Dept. Chair - ext. 382

Ms. González, is the chairperson of the Foreign Language department, teaching Spanish III- Honors, Spanish Speakers III -Honors, and AP Spanish Literature, along with being the Moderator of the Spanish Honor Society. She earned her B.A. degree in Spanish studies & her M.S. degree in Spanish education from the University of Puerto Rico. She has more than 25 years of teaching experience and her parish is St. Gregory the Great.

Mrs. Giannina Spears teaches in our Foreign Language Department. She has over 15 years of experience teaching both Spanish and French and will be assisting with our Liturgical Music program. Mrs. Spears received her Masters Degree in Languages from the University of Southern Mississippi and her Bachelor's Degree in Education from the Sacred Heart University for Women in Lima Peru and the National Pedagogical Institute in Lima Peru In ESL and French. Mrs. Meyers has taught in Catholic schools for over 15 years. She teaches Spanish II at AMHS. She is the moderator of H.E.L.P. (Helping the Elderly Live Purposefully). Mr. Perez teaches French in our Foreign Language Department and has been teaching for over 5 years. He received his Certification in Foreign Language from the University of Dijon France and his BA degree in French from Georgia State University. Mr. Michael Ruggie, Dept. Chair - ext. 370

Mr. Ruggie is the dept chair for the Math dept. and teaches Precalculus Honors, AP Calculus I, II, Calculus III and Honors Calculus. He also teaches Computer Art in the Fine Arts dept. and Meteorology Honors in the Science dept. Mr. Ruggie graduated from St. Louis University with a B.S. in Meteorology with a double major in Mathematics and his M.A.T. in Math Education from Webster University.

Mrs. Chriswisser is a member of the Math department and is currently teaching Advanced Topics & Geometry. She earned her M.A. from the University of Florida and has been teaching for six years. She is also the Head Cheerleading Coach, Maverick Maniacs Moderator, Freshmen Class Moderator and a member of St. Mark Parish.

Mrs. Lourdes Garcia - ext.

Lourdes Garcia is part of the Mathematics Department at Archbishop McCarthy and is currently teaching Algebra I. She will be assisting in both Mu Alpha Theta and the NHS (National Honor Society). She has been teaching for sixteen years and this is her first year at Archbishop McCarthy. She has a B.A. from FIU with a major in Accounting and received her Teacher Certification from Nova Southeastern University.

Mr. Jerzy Hawrylkiewicz - ext.

Mr.Jerzy Hawrylkiewicz is an enthusiastic Math Teacher who earned trust and respect from students, colleagues and administration for over 20 years. He holds two Masters Degree, one in Economics-Statistics and the other of Education in Mathematics from The City University of New York. He was an adjunct professor the last 8-years at Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York.

Ms. Marcia Cuesta - ext.

Ms. Cuesta is in her second year at Archbishop Edward McCarthy High School. She comes to the Science Department with 26 years of experience. Ms. Cuesta holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry from Barry University and a Masters in Science Education from the University of Miami. With experience teaching mathematics, biology and chemistry at the regular and honors level, Ms. Cuesta's specialty is teaching chemistry in a relevant and interesting way.

Jaclyn Gonzalez is currently a first year teacher here at Archbishop McCarthy in the Science Department. This year she has been given the opportunity to teach Biology. She is also the Assistant Athletic Trainer working alongside Mr. Ho. In addition, she has been a part of the athletics department, coaching softball for the last 3 years. Lorraine Hall-Lotito is a teacher with over 30 years of experience. She joined the Science faculty at Archbishop McCarthy this year as an instructor of Biology and Chemistry. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Kean University in New Jersey.

Mrs. Calder is a member of the Science dept. and teaches Chemistry Honors and AP Biology. She is also the moderator for the Pre-Med Club & Friends of the Animals. She earned her bachelors degree in Biology and Chemistry from the University of Miami. Mrs. Calder taught in Dade County for eleven years and was named “Teacher of the Year” for our school, then in 2000 was named “Science Teacher of the Year” for Dade County. While teaching at AMHS she was presented with the Deaver Award for outstanding teaching in 2005.

Mrs. Diaz is a member of the Science department and teaches Biology and Anatomy & Physiology. She is also the head coach for the women’s softball team and the assistant coach for volleyball. Mr. Giacobbe teaches Anatomy and Anatomy Honors in the Science Department. He is also the strength coach. He earned his bachelors degree in Physiology from the University of Miami and M.
