Celebrates 2010 with its First Regional Title

Valentines Day Weekend could not have been any sweeter for the Archbishop McCarthy High School (AMHS) Maverick Wrestling Team who won the District 14-1A Title. 
“The icing on the cake is this… we are also celebrating our FIRST Regional wrestling championship for Archbishop McCarthy High School.   The thirteen boys who qualified for the Region Tournament all scored points to assist us as a team in winning the first place trophy,” said AMHS Wrestling Coach Joe Bertolone, who was a NCAA Champion wrestler at John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio.

 “After the Valentines weekend win, I told the team wrestling is like horse racing - there's the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness and the Belmont, and to get the "TRIPLE CROWN" we have to get the big one. The way these kids have been working this year, we have a real chance to win state.  We leave to Lakeland for the FHSAA Wrestling Finals, right after the team Mass tomorrow morning,” concluded Bertolone.

Including the students listed below who qualified to the FHSAA Wrestling Finals this weekend in Lakeland, Danny Garcia at 103, Elliott James, 140, Marc Saint-Preux 145, Andres Alvarado 152, and Mike Kupka 171 earned very valuable points in the tournament.   The following boys qualified to the FHSAA Finals this coming weekend Feb 19-20, 2010 at the Lakeland Civic Center in Lakeland.
