On behalf of the Athletic Department I’d like to welcome you to the Archbishop McCarthy High School Athletic website. As Athletic Director, over the past nine years I’ve been privileged to be a part of the school’s growth and achievements. Our athletic program now fields a combined twenty-one varsity, and twelve junior varsity sports for men and women, as well as three club sports. The coaching staff and athletes are striving to build off our most successful season in 2006-07, which included winning 62% of varsity competitions and finishing fifth in total wins of forty-seven high schools in Broward County. AMHS had district championships in women’s golf, soccer, and track as well as in men’s volleyball (also regional champions) and wrestling. The women’s golf and men’s volleyball teams finished in the top eight in the state at the FHSAA State Championships. Adding to the success of last year’s accomplishments was our first ever state champion; junior, Colby Borchetta who won the 112 pound weight class in wrestling. While in high school I encourage you to become involved, whether it’s in athletics and/or other extracurricular activities. Archbishop McCarthy boasts over a 60% student participation rate in sports. We are extremely proud to have such a large portion of our student body competing in athletics. Our sports program provides you with the opportunity to participate, but what you achieve with this opportunity is in your hands. Please keep in mind that a number of our athletic programs have a selection process, while others such as football, wrestling, and men’s and women’s cross country and track allow all those who try out a chance to compete. Once again, I encourage you to enrich your high school experience by getting involved.

Parents, we also have opportunities for you to take part in your son/daughter’s high school athletic careers. The Athletic Booster Club is just one way to accomplish this. The Club sponsors a number of events such as monthly meetings/socials, tailgate parties at football games, Meet the Coaches Night, College Night for Athletics and one of the most enjoyable Golf Tournaments in Broward County. The Booster Club’s major goal is raising additional money for athletics in order to offset the cost of our programs and to help fund a football/soccer stadium, athletic field house, and lights for the softball and baseball fields.
